Latest Cinema Communication safeguards UK Film Industry tax reliefs
14 November 2013
The UK’s creative sector tax reliefs for film, high-end TV and animation have been safeguarded by the European Commission’s new Cinema Communication.
The Communication further cements our reputation as one of the most desirable locations in the world for major international production. It follows rigorous consultation with industry representatives throughout Europe and a comprehensive review of state aid.
Adrian Wootton, Chief Executive of the British Film Commission and Film London said: “The British Film Commission welcomes the decision from the European Commission to safeguard the UK’s creative sector tax reliefs, which underpin the success of the UK’s audiovisual industries and ensure we can remain globally competitive.”
The Communication has also been welcomed by UK Government. George Osborne, Chancellor of the Exchequer, commented: “The UK film industry makes a valuable cultural contribution and is an important part of our diverse and dynamic economy. Through the film tax relief we have been able to support this highly skilled, innovative and creative sector and the European Commission’s Cinema Communication will mean we can continue to provide that support.”
The British Film Commission looks forward to continuing to work collaboratively with the BFI on European partnerships, which greatly benefit the industry as a whole.
